Room 4 Garden

This afternoon two students from our class planted a swan plant into Room 4's garden. We are hoping a monarch butterfly drops an egg on one of the leaves so we can watch another life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly....

Little Red Riding Hood

We were so impressed with the acting skills from Fantails reading group whilst they presented the play Little Red Riding Hood. Well done, we loved watching you in action!

Andy - the electric man!

We have been learning to draw and write brainstorms then use our brainstorms to write recounts. We wrote about Andy the electric man using what happened first, then, next and finally. Here are some examples of our writing.

Room 4 Butterfly

14 days ago a caterpillar on our swan plant turned into a chrysalis. We have watched the chrysalis turn black as the butterfly grew inside it. This morning we were thrilled when our butterfly hatched! At the moment we have a very crinkled, wet butterfly at the bottom of our plant!

We have one more chrysalis left on our swan plant which we will enjoy watching! I wonder if it will also hatch in 14 days......

Mathematics Outside of the Classroom!

We are starting to learn about 2D and 3D shapes. First we looked at some shapes in the classroom and discussed their name, sides, length of sides and corners. Some of the shapes we talked about were triangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, circles, squares and rectangles. We went for a walk around our school and through our playground to see if we could identify and sketch any of the shapes.
Almost every object we looked at was made up of one shape we recognised!

Junior Syndicate Swimming Festival!

We were very lucky to have the sun shining upon us at Eastbourne Pool this afternoon as our Year 2 students participated in fun swimming events.
The festival was an enjoyable way to celebrate some of the skills they had learnt  from our swimming lessons as well as promoting participation and a positive attitude towards others!

Thank you to our very own class photographers Kieran and C.J. for the action shots you took!

Something Amazing in Lower hutt

Thousands of Monarch butterflies arrived in this cedar tree in late April 2011. They were still there three weeks later so it appears they might be staying for the winter. On sunny days they spend some time feeding on the many nearby flowers, but on rainy days they tend to huddle together in large clusters high up in the tree

Physical Education

This term we have been learning and practicing large ball skills. We are learning to bounce, dribble, pass and catch a large ball correctly and confidently so we can use these skills in a team game.

We have been practicing the following soccer skills. An inside foot push pass and a laces pass (passing the ball by pointing the toe down and hitting it along the big arch bone which is along the side of the shoe laces)  We have been Dribbling the ball with the outside, inside of our foot and the top or laces of our shoe.

In groups we have been learning how to chest pass to one another. We have to remember both hands are on the ball and one leg is in front of the other with our knees bent. This will help us  have the best balance and push behind our pass.

We would love to practice these skills at home with you!
