Life Education Trust

We loved going into the Life Education Classroom to find out about the food pyramid and where our food goes. We got to meet Harold the Giraffe and help his friend Jocko to have a balanced diet.

Food for Energy

We have been doing lots of fun activities to learn about the food pyramid, eating a balanced diet and where our food goes. Come and take a look at our inquiry wall.

Today we talked about the small intestine and its role in our body. We found out as food moves through the small intestine it is bathed in digestive juices. Many of these juices come from the small intestine. By the time food is ready to leave the small intestine, it has been broken down into nutrients which pass through the walls of the intestine and enter the blood. We found out the length of a child's small intestine is about 4.5m long. We went outside with our metre rulers and drew the length of the intestine then we lay down on the ground head to toe along the line to demonstrate the length.

We found out 4 friends was about the length of our small intestine!

Fireworks!

I ran to the window and there was a bang and I said to Monty fireworks! Monty ran to the window and didn’t see anything so stood there for a few seconds and walked back to the couch. He went down to my sister’s room and saw the big loud colourful fire works.

By Theo

On Guy Fawkes Day at 7.30pm we blasted off the fireworks into the grey sky. The fire works looked like a green and blue small waterfall.

By Ollie

I heard fireworks when I was on the beach. I had chips and I had sparklers. I lit the sparklers in a fire it was fun. I drew pink and orange little circles in the black sky. They fizzled out and the sparklers smelled smoky. I was so so sad because the sparklers fizzled out so I got another one and I was not sad. I had fun.

Boom, bang, pop that’s what I heard on the roof top, fireworks on the tin roof. The fire works sounded like the very hard hail on the tin roof. The fireworks nearly went on for the entire night. It was a little bit frightening because I was in the middle of the rugby game.

Bang, pop, sizzle! I heard the fireworks it was an explosion. I went outside my brother was at home I was at my dad’s work. I had fun!

By William

Kaboom I went outside it was an explosion. My Mum got 1 packet of sparklers. Dad, Mum and Quinn did sparklers too. The sparklers were glowing in the dark. I saw a humongous firework. It went kaboom and made little circles in the sky.  After I went to bed I was exhausted out!

By Blaine

Bang, Pop, whoosh. I was shivering on the beach the fireworks were shining. There were red and green and yellow fire works. They were shiny. After the fireworks I put my

P-j's on and had a hot chocolate. Then I went to bed. I was exhausted!

Bang, Crash, Pop I looked out the window and there were the best fire works ever! It looked like a golden tree as if a tree was growing really fast. I heard a spark glittery noise I think that is was magic they exploded like golden raindrops like a waterfall.

By Emmylou

Boom fire works went crazy. I ran out side to see the fireworks. Wow they were everywhere but they were mostly yellow. They were zooming and bursting through the sky but there was one more firework it was called the monster. It goes boom through the sky.

By Lachlan

Kaboom. Bang, pop I saw willow trees, flowers, smiley faces, love hearts and waterfalls, red, purple, blue, yellow and orange sparkly fireworks exploding bright beautiful colours as they drifted away.

 By Gala

Bang, Boom, Pop! I saw circles, hearts, flashing circles, smiley faces, shooting lines and showers of golden sparkling rain in the black, black sky. I heard Dad who kept on saying “wow” as the fireworks cracked and exploded in the shimmering starlit blackening sky. I saw sparks falling and disappearing into the lighted sparkling glimmering dark sea.

Just having a good day

Boom, pop, sizzle in a 1, 2, 3 fireworks blasted in the sky. For a moment it was silent. Boom, pop, sizzle I was just about to tell my Mum that there was another gold firework in the sky but just then it slowly drifted away. I think I was pretty lucky to see it but I didn’t want to miss out on the next firework. I kept on looking at the sky and there was a red fire rocket blasting in the sky. But just then another boom, pop, sizzle. All different light colours went in different directions. I was sad because I didn’t even get to watch my favourite dark sparkly firework but I didn’t want to get too tired because I didn’t want to be late for school the next day.

Burning flames up in the sky, yellow, orange, red, the guys were burnt. The witches’ hat was jumping around in the dark black sky. The long strips of paper in the air looked like a terrifying ferocious monster. It was hairy all over. Then we roasted marshmallows and I got 5 because of my evil grin. When I got home Biscuit was scared of the fireworks so we cuddled her in the living room.

We were doing mathletics and suddenly there was a deafening sound, which shooted up like a rocket in the neighbours. My sister was crying because she did not want to do mathletics and thought it was very hard. I thought she was being silly but I got distracted because it happened again and Shilini said, “should we go to the fire works now?” “Yes”, said Dad but Freya said, “no I don’t want to go to guyfawkes”. Me and Freja argued for a bit. Dad said, “quiet”. I said Freya started it. Dad said, “I don’t care and we are going now”. So we got our jackets on and a bubble hat. We raced down the steps we stopped to a sudden holt we heard the big explosion exploding the fire works. Dad said, “quick we might miss the big fireworks”. When we got there we saw love heart fire works. Then it was the grand finale it was huge it was gold teardrops in the sky. We stared at the sparks of the teardrops and they floated away.

Mathematics

We have been busy learning to solve problems using number and measurement.

Above are some photos of us using place value equipment to make 2 digit and 3 digit numbers as well as using scales to measure the weight of objects. We had to work out how many cubes weighed the same as some objects in our classroom as well as which objects were heavier or lighter than others.

Maths

We have been practicing our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Along with practicing our basic facts we have been learning about measurement. We have been using cubes to measure the length of objects as well as the length of our hands and feet! We have been comparing the lengths of shapes using short, shorter and shortest.
